Warm Hearth Village and Virginia Tech’s Chi Delta Alpha Sorority Teamed Up to Beautify the Village

April 08, 2025

Warm Hearth Village (WHV) flourishes thanks to the dedication and generosity of its resident and community volunteers. They share their time and talents to make the community a more welcoming, beautiful and environmentally responsible place to call home. Their efforts often go unseen, but their impact is felt throughout.

Last month, eight residents teamed with 28 volunteers from the Virginia Tech Chi Delta Alpha sorority, contributing 74 service hours to clean and maintain the wooded trails on campus. Volunteers also cleaned benches and signs, blazed trails, raked leaves and cleared debris, ensuring that residents can continue to enjoy these natural spaces.

Resident Jack Onufrak moved to the Village in 2022 and embraced the engaging culture by volunteering his time to mark the walking trails and be sure the map was accurate. “This Village was founded to be interactive with residents and staff working together,” he said. He went on to say WHV continually seeks to include area universities, business, and groups in volunteering in the Village to help with grounds, socialization, fitness classes, and more. To that end, he volunteered to coordinate the post-storm cleanup effort. “Working with the Tech students and their families to clear away brush and debris was rewarding on all sides. I love to do it. And I want to keep doing it. Residents can volunteer at any level they choose. It is so rewarding to work here,” he said.

Warm Hearth extends special thanks to Jack Onufrak and Rylee Whitt for organizing this successful event. Warm Hearth continues to be grateful for all the opportunities to work with and be a part of the greater community and extends a heartfelt thank you to the Chi Delta Alpha volunteers, their parents, and Warm Hearth residents Randi Lemmon, Ken and Ann Winans, Greg Urbinati, Glenn Freeman and Marti Snyder for their hard work.
