Nurturing Community Connections

Helping Grow our Warm Hearth Community

Wybe Kroontje established a powerful mission and vision along with a 100-year plan for our continued growth and development. Combined with strategic planning by our volunteer board of directors and staff, we can meet the changing needs in our senior community and the greater New River Valley community.

Strategic Growth

As a nonprofit organization, we continually are challenged to provide superior quality care and services while making programs affordable to our residents. Funds we receive through donations and charitable gifts are used to:

  • Acquire land
  • Begin new construction on campus
  • Provide transportation resources to residents
  • Provide Endowed Human Service positions
  • Create specialty programming designed to meet the unique needs of people over 55

The Cornerstone of Our Community

Our employees and volunteers are the heartbeat of our campus. Without them, we would not be able to instill and live out our founder's mission of "Fostering a person-centered approach to aging in an inclusive environment that redefines retirement". We strive to give back to our employees and volunteers through scholarships, training, continued education, and more!

Employee Development

Over the past 45 years we have continued to grow and now employ more than 300 people in careers that range from nurses to groundskeepers and everything in between. Our employees are the cornerstone of Warm Hearth Village and one of our most valuable resources. We raise funds to help support employees through:

  • Scholarships
  • Training and education
  • Employee appreciation initiatives

Volunteerism

Our Foundation is proud to operate multiple year-round programs to help fill the gaps for low-income residents at Warm Hearth Village. Our programs would not be possible without our countless volunteers, who work alongside our Foundation staff to make them a reality. Warm Hearth Volunteers not only give their time, but they also give life to our unique programs and services. Volunteers are the heart of our community and help us continue to instill our Warm Hearth tradition of caring.

Volunteer With Us

Community Grants:

Grant awards play an important role in our Foundation’s work. Our community and local partners’ grants are especially meaningful in helping us provide care to seniors through our community programs.

Past Grants Provided:

BB&T Lighthouse Project

Each year, BB&T branches select a nonprofit to support through the bank’s Lighthouse Project. Branch employees volunteer with the organization they select, and the organization receives a $1,000 grant. Employees from both branches spent time volunteering with Micah’s Soup for Seniors and Micah’s Meals, and grant funding was used to purchase laundry detergent for Micah’s Personal Care Items.

New River Valley Association of Realtors Grant

This $2,000 grant was used to purchase cleaning supplies for a special Micah’s Personal Care Items holiday distribution to our 144 Trolinger and New River House apartments.

C.E. Richardson Foundation & Corning Incorporated Foundation Grants

Grants awarded from these charitable foundations were used to provide meals for residents receiving charitable assistance at Showalter Center and the Kroontje Health Care Center.

Trolinger Trust

This grant helps support low-income seniors on our campus through the Resident Assistance Fund, helping to fund the purchase of essential items such as dentures, eyeglasses, and hearing aids.

Walmart Grant

Funds from this grant were used to purchase supplies for Micah’s Personal Care Items program.

Warm Hearth’s HUD Service Coordinator Grant

This grant was renewed for $76,000 to assist low-income residents in the Trollinger and new River House apartments at Warm Hearth Village.
