Warm Hearth Village (WHV) is pleased to announce a new partnership with Lewis Gale Hospital Montgomery and its residency program to provide medical residents with hands-on geriatric clinical training at Kroontje Healthcare Center. Medical Director, Dr. Jeffrey Garland, MD, has agreed to serve as the supervising physician for this formal rotation focused on the care of older adults, establishing WHV as the official site for the program. This rotation will offer residents valuable real-world experience working with interdisciplinary care teams and serving seniors in long-term care, rehabilitation, and community-based settings.
“We are excited to partner with Lewis Gale’s residency program”, said Warm Hearth President & CEO, William Lester, “Supporting physician education at Warm Hearth Village strengthens our mission of compassionate, resident-centered care, and I believe our residents will value the meaningful role they play in shaping and educating the next generation of physicians.”
Dr. Abraham B. Hardee III, Program Director for the Lewis Gale Hospital Montgomery Family Medicine Residency Program, said “The future of rural healthcare in Southwest Virginia hinges on the engagement of young energetic future physicians. Here at Lewis Gale Hospital Montgomery, we have a community focused family medicine residency that prides itself on engaging with our community partners.” He added, “Warm Hearth has been a major pillar in our community for years, specifically as it relates to our seniors. The two entities will combine resources to improve geriatric exposure for our resident physicians, gain greater appreciation of the needs within this population, and to a greater effect, show partnering with other healthcare agencies, instead of competing with them, can lead to overall improvements in communities.”
“Serving Warm Hearth and it’s patients as medical director is a true joy,” said Dr. Garland, Program Director. “They continue to focus on not only quality but also individualized care to meet each resident’s needs. The addition of the site rotations will continue to enhance this work and provide even more great care that our residents deserve.”
As the population of adults over age 65 continues to grow, training outstanding geriatric clinicians is increasingly important. Warm Hearth Village is proud to help meet this need and looks forward to a meaningful, ongoing collaboration with Lewis Gale Hospital Montgomery.
