Three Warm Hearth Residents Earn Gold Medals at NRV Senior Games

May 02, 2022

Warm Hearth Village residents Roland Byrd, Kevin Stieper, and Hugh Van Landingham each won gold medals in their age group in the New River Valley Senior Games Pickleball Tournament on April 27. Participants must be at least 50 years old to enter the games organized by the Town of Wytheville Parks and Recreation with participants from Blacksburg, Christiansburg, Floyd, Giles, Pulaski, Montgomery County, and Radford.

WHV partnered with the senior games this year for the first time. “We truly pride ourselves on connecting our residents to active recreational and social opportunities and on working in partnership with the greater community. We are so proud of our residents and of all the seniors who participated,” said Ellen Rorrer, Marketing Consultant.

Byrd said the event was well-organized. “This is a significant annual event that promotes good, healthy recreation in a cross-section of sports. Our own pickleball court in the Village continues to offer an excellent opportunity for play. We plan to start offering times to teach basic skills for learning and improving. I enjoy facilitating pickleball at all levels,” added Byrd.

WHV congratulates all who participated in the games and a special thanks to Wytheville Parks and Rec for their leadership.
