Endless Opportunities to Learn and Connect

Our robust Life Enrichment staff and purposeful strategic community connections with Virginia Tech, local hospital physicians and other community interest groups create endless opportunities on our campus for residents to learn and connect with other neighbors and the larger community.

Something for Everyone

Warm Hearth brings a wide variety of programming to many different locations across our village. All residents can enjoy events held in our two primary community spaces, The Village Center and Karr Activity Center. In addition, Life Enrichment staff are dedicated to Showalter Center and Kroontje Health Care Center, where they create special programming to engage with residents in all levels of health care.

Life Enrichment Events

Our Life Enrichment staff organize presentations, music events, art classes, demonstrations, volunteer opportunities and off-campus trips to engage and delight residents with a wide variety of interests. There is never a dull moment in our Village! To see a sampling of our events, click the link below for the most recent edition of our resident newsletter.

Our Higher Education Partners

The Lifelong Learning Institute (LLI) at Virginia Tech draws on a wealth of academic and community resources to provide intellectual, cultural, and social experiences for curious adults 50 and older. We bring elements of the LLI program to our campus in weekly lectures and other events every spring and summer. Local universities provide the opportunity for Virginia citizens 60 years of age or over to audit or take courses for credit at state-supported institutions of higher learning in Virginia without paying tuition and required fees: Virginia Tech (just minutes from our Village!), Radford University and New River Community College.

Special Interests

Warm Hearth collaborates with area professionals and local special interest groups like Lewis Gale and Carilion physicians, New River Stage Theater Classes, Genealogy Research Club, Bird Club and Nature Club to bring meetings and presentations to our campus. If we don’t have a group that resonates with you, you can create your own! Examples include the Green Committee, Writer’s Group and Guided Meditation, all created and led by Warm Hearth residents.

Out and About

The New River Valley offers an additional layer of cultural, educational, athletic, theatrical, religious, and spiritual opportunities. Enjoy things like bluegrass music at the Floyd Country Store, hiking on the Appalachian Trail, Virginia Tech sporting events and world-renowned shows at the Moss Arts Center.
